NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team saw three players record at least seven points each in its 16-2 victory over Westminster on Wednesday night, April 5, in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action.
Monica Ewansik (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) scored 28 seconds into the game to get the Presidents on the board first before
Caroline Kallos (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) followed with her first score of the game just 24 seconds later, giving the Presidents a 2-0 lead not even a minute into the game. W&J proceeded to score the next nine goals, six of which came in the first half, to move ahead 11-0.
After Westminster scored its first goal with 20:39 remaining in the second half,
Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) and Kallos scored back-to-back goals to give the Presidents a 13-1 lead. The Titans tacked on their second and final goal of the game with 12:26 left in the game before the Presidents scored the final three goals to round out the scoring.
Kallos totaled a career-high eight points in the win, including six goals to tie her career high which she set at Thiel on April 8, 2015. She also picked up four ground balls, won four draw controls and caused four turnovers. LaRochelle also tallied eight points in the game as she scored four goals and recorded a season-high four assists. Her eight points were also a season high to go along with her season-high four draw controls.
Ewansik totaled seven points (career high at W&J) on five goals and two assists to go along with three ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control.
Kayla Boulas (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) scored once to round out the goal scoring for the Presidents while
Katelyn White (Linthicum, Md./North County) added two assists.
Michaela Mulokey (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) (2-3) earned the win as the netminder for the Presidents after making one save in the first half.
Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J Roberts) played the second half in relief and made four saves.
In the first half, the Presidents held a 17-2 advantage in shots, including an 11-1 edge in shots on goal, and finished outshooting the Titans 28-8. W&J also won the turnover battle, 22-14, and won 12-of-19 draw controls.
The Presidents will be back in action on Sunday, April 9, when they host Transylvania in a 1:00 p.m. ORLC battle.
