HANOVER, Ind. -- Playing its first of two games in two days between Indiana and Kentucky, Washington & Jefferson picked up a 12-7 women's lacrosse victory at Hanover.
The victory pushes W&J's winning streak to four games in improving to 5-4 overall and 4-0 in the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference. Hanover falls to 7-6 this season, with a 4-2 mark in league play.
The Presidents fell behind 3-0 through 7:32 of game time, but
Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) figured in on the next three goals to tie the game. LaRochelle scored the first and third goals of the run and assisted on
Caroline Kallos' (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) woman-up goal at 17:16. The Panthers struck again to take a 4-3 lead, but the road team scored the final four goals of the opening half to hold a 7-4 lead at intermission. Four different Presidents tickled the twine during the span: LaRochelle (12:22),
Katelyn White (Linthicum, Md./North County) (5:04),
Monica Ewansik (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) (2:00) and Kallos (0:50).
LaRochelle scored twice as W&J accounted for three of the first four scores of the second half to open up a 10-5 lead. Kallos corralled the other in scoring the final three goals of the game for the Presidents.
LaRochelle led all players with six points (five goals, one assist) and was joined with five scores by Kallos. Ewansik totaled four points with a goal and three assists.
Kallos picked up a career-best 12 ground balls (three less than the entire Hanover team), giving her 180 for her career and breaking the Presidents' career record of 174 (Brittney Oake '12) in the process. The junior also had six draw controls and five caused turnovers to lead all players. LaRochelle has three draw controls and two caused turnovers, plus Ewansik added four ground balls.
Michaela Mulokey (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) picked up the win in goal, making five saves and allowing four goals in the first half.
Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J Roberts) posted five saves and surrendered three goals in the final 30 minutes.
W&J travels to Crestview Hills, Kentucky to play Thomas More at 1 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, April 15).
