Kallos, LaRochelle combine for 15 goals in 17-11 win at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson's Caroline Kallos (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) combined for 15 goals as the Presidents downed Saint Vincent on the road, 17-11.

Kallos scored nine goals to set a new career high, while LaRochelle tied the benchmark for her rookie season with six scores. The freshman also added two assists to total eight points on the afternoon. Monica Ewansik (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) collected the remaining two markers for the Presidents.

The victory keeps W&J (7-4 overall) atop the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference standings at 6-0, placing it firmly in the driver's seat to host the league semifinals and finals for a consecutive season. The Presidents were victorious a season ago to claim the first conference championship in program history. This year's tournament is set for Friday-Saturday, May 4-5. Saint Vincent, the defending league runner-up, drops to 7-4 and 4-2 in league action.

Kallos scored the first three goals of the game and W&J never looked back. SVC got within 6-5 after scoring four out of five goals in the middle of the first half, but the Presidents boasted an 11-8 lead at halftime en route to the six-goal win.

W&J led in shots, 35-23, and ground balls, 30-26, but the home team accumulated more draw controls, 18-12.

Kallos needed just 11 shots for her nine goals, with LaRochelle's 14 shots topping all players.

Ewansik registered a game-best six ground balls to match her highest output as a President. Kallos, Katherine Hooper (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) and Allison Onslow (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) each snagged four ground balls. Kallos recovered six draw controls, moving her to 185 on her career and passing former teammate Diana Harvey (184) atop the Presidents' career list.

Michaela Mulokey (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) earned the victory to up her season mark to 6-3, posting three saves in the first 30 minutes. Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J Roberts) made three saves and allowed only three second-half goals.
