SCRANTON, Pa. -- After surrendering nine goals in the first quarter, the Washington & Jefferson men's lacrosse team was unable to recover against Scranton, falling 13-3 on Saturday afternoon, April 29, in nonconference action.
Trailing 9-0 entering the second quarter, the Royals tacked on two more goals before
Kyle Heinig (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) got the Presidents on the board with his 42nd goal of the season with 4:09 remaining in the second quarter. The Royals scored once more to end the second quarter to take a 12-1 lead into halftime.
After both teams failed to score in the third quarter,
Ben Ward (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) scored his 40th goal of the season to open the scoring in the fourth followed by a
Devon Curran (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) goal, after the Royals scored their 13th goal of the game, to cap the scoring.
Heinig and Curran both tallied two points in the game, adding an assist each to go along with their goals. Nine Presidents picked up multiple ground balls in the game, led by
Noah Cohen's (Hewlett, N.Y./George W. Hewlett) seven.
Cohen made 24 saves in the game, giving him 247 this season, as he broke
Jacob Succop's mark of 229 saves in 2016 for the most saves in a single season in program history.
The fourth-seeded Presidents will be back in action on Wednesday, May 3, when they travel to top-seeded Transylvania at 5:00 p.m. for the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference semifinal.
