WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team suffered a 1-0 loss to Division II Slippery Rock on Wednesday night, Sept. 13, in a home nonconference match.
The Presidents battled throughout the match, but Slippery Rock was able to tack on the only goal of the game in the 64th minute to get past W&J.
Gabby Karr (White Hall, Md./North Hartford),
Alana Boyd (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison),
Rachel Buyan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) and
Jenna Jaworski (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) provided the offense for the Presidents in the game as each tallied one shot.
Karlie Baran (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) performed strongly as the W&J goalie, making five saves in 70 minutes of action, including one on a Slippery Rock penalty stroke in the 53rd minute to keep the game scoreless. Karr also played an important role on defense, making a defensive save in the 66th minute to keep the Presidents' deficit at one goal.
The Presidents will return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 16, when they travel to Empire 8 rival Elmira for a 1:00 p.m. battle.
