WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss against NAIA member Point Park in nonconference action at the Henry Memorial Gymnasium.
The loss drops the Presidents to 2-5 on the season, while the Pioneers improve to 9-6. Set scores were 25-17, 25-14, 18-25, 25-23.
Julia Bernesser (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) paced the attack with 11 kills.
Julia Galbraith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) also reached double digits with 10 kills, while
Madison Lydic (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) contributed eight kills and a .261 hitting percentage.
Mallory O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) handed out 37 assists in the defeat.
Defensively, four players reached double digits in digs, led by
Makenzie Coughlin's (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) 26. O'Brien chipped in 18, with Galbraith completing the double-double at 14 and
Katie Conner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) adding 13. Bernesser led all players with seven blocks, and Lydic was right behind with six.
Abbey Eich (Greencastle, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) posted five blocks, including one solo.
W&J will be back in action tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 14, traveling down I-79 for a 7 p.m. Presidents' Athletic Conference tilt with Waynesburg. The Presidents topped the Yellow Jackets, 3-0, this past Saturday.
