Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Toohey nets 50th career goal in 5-0 win at Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Needing just 6:20 into a nonconference match at Franciscan, senior Jordan Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant/St Francis (Pa.)) notched her 50th career goal en route to a 5-0 victory for the Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team.

The goal, which was assisted by Tatiana Ruzzini (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), made Toohey just the fourth student-athlete in program history to reach the 50-goal mark, joining career co-leaders Nicole Bosley and Holly Shipley (61) and third-place Jen Pergola (59). Her 50th marker came in just her 44th career game as a President, as she transferred to W&J from St. Francis (Pa.) after her freshman season.

Less than two minutes later, Toohey scored career goal number 51 to extend the W&J lead to 2-0. That goal was assisted by Lexey Finney (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan). Reigning Presidents' Athletic Conference and ECAC Division III South Offensive Player of the Week Ashton Grimm (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville/Saint Francis (Pa.)) pushed the advantage to 3-0 at 18:10 with an unassisted goal, and later made it 5-0 1:26 into the second half with her second of the afternoon. W&J's fourth goal of the match came 1:03 after Grimm's first and was off the boot of Josie Madden (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) and was assisted by Ruzzini, as was Grimm's second score.

Grimm and Toohey both had a pair of goals, while Ruzzini added three assists. Ruzzini led all players with six shots, while Toohey totaled five shots and Madden and Erin Herock (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) each tallied four shots. For the match, the Presidents led the Barons by a 28-3 shot margin, including 15-0 on goal.

Beth Boyles (Dundee, Ohio/Hiland) made her third career start in goal, posting the clean sheet and picking up her third career win, improving to 1-1 this season in the process.

The Presidents now improve to 3-2-1 in 2017, while the Barons drop to 2-4.

W&J will be back on the pitch on Friday, Sept. 22, hosting No. 15 Carnegie Mellon in a 7 p.m. match at Alexandre Stadium.
