WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team earned a two-game split to round out its weekend of competition as it defeated Capital in three sets by scores of 26-24, 25-22, 27-25 before falling in four sets to host Otterbein by set scores of 25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 25-9 on Saturday, Sept. 2.

Against Capital,
Madison Lydic (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) set a new career high with 17 kills on a .389 attack percentage to go along with four blocks while
Abbey Eich (Greencastle, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) totaled 15 kills on a .469 attack percentage and added a block as well.

Mallory O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) had 39 helpers in the contest in addition to four kills, three blocks and 12 digs while
Makenzie Coughlin (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) had a game-high 20 digs to anchor the defense.
McKenzie Merenick (Warren, Pa./Warren) was the third W&J player to reach the double-digit dig mark, tallying 10.

The Presidents held an edge in kills (50-40) and digs (73-63) over the Crusaders to earn first-year head coach
Lauren London-Law her first career victory.

In the second game of the day, Eich led the W&J offense with 12 kills on a .355 attack percentage with Lydic contributing eight. O'Brien added 26 assists to her daily total in addition to six digs while Coughlin led the team with 16 digs and
Julia Galbraith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) tallied a career-high 14 digs.

After the conclusion of the match, Eich was named to the Otterbein Fall Classic All-Tournament Team.

The Presidents will return to the court on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 7:00 p.m. when they face Geneva in their first Presidents' Athletic Conference action of the season.
