WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson field hockey team shut out nonconference opponent Oberlin by a score of 8-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
 
The Presidents did not allow a shot on the day, taking 36 themselves, with 19 going on target.
 
Alana Boyd (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) put W&J on the board early as she scored two first half goals, the first coming in the 12th minute and the second tallied during the 24th minute.  
Ashley Overton (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) rounded out the first half scoring with a goal in the 34th minute.
 
W&J added five more goals in the second half, two coming off the stick of 
Rachel Buyan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) (57', 64'), two from 
Michelle Yamamori (San Demas, Calif./Bonita) (62', 64'), and another from 
Grace Kovalan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) (69'). Yamamori's first goal and Kovalan's score were the first of their respective careers.
 
Boyd and Buyan led the team with 13 and nine shots, respectively, and earned two goals apiece, while also both tallying an assist. Overton took four shots including a goal.  
Jenna Jaworski (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) added four more shots and an assist.
 
Karlie Baran (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) earned her second straight shutout and her third win of the season.
 
The Presidents will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 23, with a conference showdown against Nazareth at 12:00 p.m.
