Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Walters wins it in 104th minute at Case Western Reserve, 2-1

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Nicole Walters (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) scored on a header off of a Josie Madden (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) corner kick in the 104th minute to give the Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team a 2-1 double overtime nonconference win at Case Western Reserve.

The victory improves the Presidents to 4-3-1 on the season behind a 3-1 record in road matches. The Spartans drop to an even 4-4 in 2017.

Walters' goal was just the second shot of the second overtime period, coming 3:48 into the frame. It came off a consecutive corner kick by Madden as W&J took a pair of corners within an 18-second span, converting on the second.

The match was scoreless through the first 74 minutes, but the home team got on the board first when Emily Hauser gave CWRU a 1-0 lead. It only took 2:24 for the Presidents to get the equalizer as Tatiana Ruzzini (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) scored off an assist by Ashton Grimm (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville/St. Francis (Pa.)). It was the second goal of the season for Ruzzini and 38th of her career. The goal also gives her 97 career points to move past Chrissy Marcius for fifth place on the W&J career points list, three shy of becoming the fifth President to reach 100 points.

CWRU held an 18-13 advantage on shots, but W&J led 2-1 between the two overtime periods. Jordan Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant/St. Francis (Pa.)) led all players with seven shots, including five on goal. Ruzzini was the lone other President with multiple shots, turning in two.

Allison Rinehimer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) earned her 24th career victory, making a season-high seven saves in the win.

W&J hosts Penn State Altoona in the nonconference finale on Thursday, Sept. 28. Kickoff at Alexandre Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
