Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stasko's clean sheet, Kotkiewicz's goal give W&J first win over Geneva since 2013

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Nick Stasko (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) posted his first clean sheet of the season, and Matt Kotkiewicz (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) scored the game-winner in the 70th minute, to give the Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team its first win over Geneva since 2013 on Friday night.

The Presidents improve to 4-7-1 overall and 2-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with the victory.

Kotkiewicz took a cross from Thomas Davidson (Upper St. Clair, Pa./Upper St. Clair) on the left side of the box and finished for his second goal of the season with 20:25 remaining in the second half to light the scoreboard for the first, and only, time in the match. The Golden Tornadoes had a few chances to attempt to tie, but a shot with 15 seconds left sailed wide as the Presidents held on.

The shutout was the fourth of Stasko's career, while he picked up his 15th win of his time in Red & Black.

Behind an 8-3 advantage in the first half, W&J led the match in shots, 10-9. Junior Mensah (Chantilly, Va./Broad Run) tied for the match lead with three shots, while Kotkiewicz and Paul Mokrzan (Hilliard, Ohio/Watterson) each added two shots.

W&J will return to the pitch to tackle Saint Vincent in Latrobe, Pa. on Wednesday, Oct. 17. PAC play continues against the Bearcats at 2 p.m.
