LATROBE, Pa. -- Three first half-goals propelled the Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Saint Vincent in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Wednesday, Oct. 17.Â
Following today's win, the Presidents are 5-7-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the PAC, which is tied for second in the league standings. The Bearcats, on the other hand, are now 1-12-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the PAC in 2018.Â
W&J opened the scoring in today's match with a seventh-minute strike by
Jake Fetterman (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School), his third of the season. Fetterman took a cross from
Michael DeSabato (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) and deposited the ball past the opposing keeper.Â
The Presidents' next goal came from an individual effort from
Matt Kotkiewicz (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), who stole the ball from the defender and beat the keeper in the 29th minute. Kotkiewicz has scored in back-to-back matches and now has three goals on the season.Â
Thomas Einolf's (Carlisle, Pa./Middletown) 41st-minute tally, which was assisted by
Drew Williams (Jefferson Twp, Pa./North Pocono), was the last of the game, as the Presidents held on to earn the 3-0 win. After today, Fetterman, Kotkiewicz, and Einolf are now tied for the team lead with three goals apiece.Â
As a team, the Red & Black tied a season high with 36 shots, 18 of which were on goal. The Bearcats recorded just three shots in the game, zero on goal. W&J also held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.Â
Nick Stasko (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) started in goal for the Presidents and played 54:25, while
Samuel Miller (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) came in for 35:36 minutes of relief. Neither keeper registered a save in the match.Â
