Presidents whisk past Golden Tornadoes, claim final three sets in 3-1 win

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – After dropping the first set to Geneva, the Presidents rebounded to take the next three, including a season-long 32-30 victory in the second set, in a 3-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory on Thursday night.
 
Washington & Jefferson fell by a 25-20 score in the first, but then posted 32-30, 25-20 and 25-23 wins to secure the match and improve to 16-9 overall and 12-2 in the PAC with two matches left in the regular season.
 
Madison Lydic (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) led all players with 18 kills, her third-highest total of the year and 10th time in double digits this season, while hitting at a .302 percentage. Abbey Eich (Greencastle, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) reached double figures for the sixth time in 2018, turning in 13 kills at a .324 clip. Bridget Hart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle) contributed 12 kills, while Haley Nelson (Warren, Pa./Warren) added nine. Mallory O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) topped 50 assists for the third-straight match she's played in, and fourth in the past five, by handing out 52 helpers against Geneva.
 
Defensively, Eich had two blocks, and Lydic had a solo block of her own. O'Brien and Makenzie Coughlin (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) tied for the match high with 28 digs, marking the 13th double-double of the season for O'Brien. Julia Galbraith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) and Katie Conner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) both topped 20 digs as well, with 27 and 22, respectively.
 
W&J will host Saint Vincent at noon on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Henry Memorial Gym in the penultimate regular-season match of the 2018 season.
