Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Presidents hand Westminster first PAC loss in thrilling 1-0 OT win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Julie Halula (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) sent the Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team home a 1-0 winner over Westminster with a 98th-minute goal on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Following today's victory, the Presidents improve to 7-7-2 overall and 4-2-0 in conference. W&J now has 12 league points, which is tied third in the PAC standings. The Titans suffered their first loss of PAC play and are now 13-4-0 overall and 6-1-0 in conference.

Today's game-winning goal was set up by a pass from Brianna Floryshak (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area), who found Halula 15 yards away from goal. Halula gathered the ball and turned to launch it into the back of the net. On the season, Halula recorded a new career high with seven points on a career-high tying three goals and an assist.

W&J finished the match with seven shots, five on goal. Katie Hahn (Volant, Pa./Wilmington) and Chandler Marteeny (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) paced the team with two shots apiece. Five Presidents each tied for the team lead with one shot on goal.

Freshman Shayla Watkins (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) picked up her sixth win of the year by making seven saves in 97:55. Watkins has tallied two complete-game shutout victories so far this season.

The Red & Black will next host Bethany in their final regular-season home game on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m.
