Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

W&J wins third straight, tops Bethany, 2-0

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team did not allow a shot in the second half of its 2-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Bethany on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Alexandre Stadium.

The win gives the Presidents an 8-7-2 overall record and a 5-2-0 mark in the PAC. W&J is firmly in third in the conference standings with 15 league points, three points up on the next closest team. If the Red & Black can secure a win or a tie in their final regular-season game on Saturday, Oct 24, they will clinch a spot in the PAC Tournament.

Brianna Floryshak (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) scored today's first goal in the 10th minute. Caitlin Drahushak (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) sent a pass to Floryshak in the middle of the box, when she turned and beat the goalie high. Floryshak's goal is her second of the year.

Marcy Saldivar (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) also scored her second goal of the year, with hers sealing tonight's match in the 63rd minute. Saldivar gained control of a loose ball in the box and took advantage of the keeper being out of position.

The Presidents defense was ruthless tonight, allowing the Bison to record just three shots in the game, none in the second half. W&J, on the other hand, registered 19 shots, seven on goal.

Floryshak led all players with six shots, while Saldivar tallied four. Courtney Finney (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) recorded two shots to round out W&J's players with multiple attempts.

Shayla Watkins (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) posted a complete-game shutout, her fourth of the year, with one save in 90 minutes. The rookie keeper has recorded a shutout in her last two matches and has not allowed a goal in her previous 235:25 of action.

The Presidents wrap up the 2018 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 27, with a road 1 p.m. match against Waynesburg.
