Women’s Soccer punches ticket to PAC Tournament with 1-0 win over Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team clinched a spot in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament with a 1-0 road victory over Waynesburg on Saturday, Oct. 27.

By securing today's victory, the Presidents improve to 9-7-2 overall and 6-2 in the PAC. W&J is now in a two-way tie for second in the conference, with the Red & Black holding the tiebreaker over Westminster with their head-to-head win earlier in the year. The final tournament seeding will not be determined until the completion of the Geneva and Chatham match that was postponed due to the tragic events that took place in Squirrel Hill on Saturday.

Brianna Floryshak (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) scored the lone goal in today's match, finding the back of the net in the 59th minute. Floryshak received a pass from Chandler Marteeny (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) five yards into the box, when she turned and ripped a shot into the left corner. Floryshak has scored in back-to-back matches and now has three goals on the season. Marteeny's assist is her first of the year.

The Presidents offense overwhelmed the Yellow Jackets today, as W&J owned a 19-10 lead in shots and an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Floryshak paced the Presidents' offense with a career-high seven shots, four of which were on goal. Samantha Fields (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) finished second on the team with four shots, while Katie Hahn (Volant, Pa./Wilmington) was third with two.

Shayla Watkins (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) posted her third straight shutout by making five saves in 90 minutes. Watkins is 8-5-2 on the season and has not allowed a goal in her last 325:25 of action.
