W&J locks up PAC second seed with 3-0 Senior Day sweep of Grove City

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Presidents clinched the second seed in next week's Presidents' Athletic Conference volleyball tournament and gave their seniors a clean sweep in their final home matches as Washington & Jefferson bested Grove City, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-23).

W&J will be the second seed and thus receives a quarterfinal bye in the tournament. It marks the first time W&J has been seeded second or better since the Presidents locked up the second seed in the 2006 PAC championship. This year's semifinals will be Friday night, Nov. 2 (against an opponent to be determined on Tuesday), with the finals slated for Saturday, Nov. 3. Both days to be competed at Westminster's Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. The Presidents conclude the regular season with an 18-9 overall record and 14-2 mark in the PAC.

Morgan Jacques (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy) led all players with nine kills in the match. Senior Madison Lydic (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) was second on the team with seven kills and two service aces. Mallory O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) handed out 26 assists and tied for the match lead with three aces.

Defensively, Lydic recorded a career-high 10 blocks in the match to move into third place on the rally-scoring era career list at W&J. Jacques and Abbey Eich (Greencastle, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) added four apiece. Makenzie Coughlin (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) added 18 digs.
