Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Buyan scores four goals to lead W&J to 6-0 win over Frostburg State

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Rachel Buyan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) netted a career-high four goals to guide No. 19 Washington & Jefferson field hockey to a 6-0 victory over Frostburg State at Cameron Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 3.

The Presidents, who are now 9-0 on the year, tallied season highs in goals with six. The Red & Black found most of their success on the penalty corner, as they converted five of 11 attempts into goals. On defense, W&J held the Bobcats to just five shots.

Buyan, a significant component of the team's penalty-corner approach, was the primary recipient of W&J's attacking offense. Buyan recorded three tip-ins off penalty-corner shots, with the other score coming from an attempt in the middle of the circle.

Buyan finished the bout with nine points on four goals and one assist. In addition to Buyan having a career day, both Reghan Dunn (Earleville, Md./Bohemian Manor) and Madeline Hubbard (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) scored their first career goals.

As for assists, Rachel Fromm (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg), Gabby Karr (White Hall, Md./North Hartford), Alana Boyd (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison), and Claire Shaak (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County) were each credited with helpers.

Rena Israel (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) started the contest and made three saves in a complete-game shutout. Israel received some assistance from Dunn to keep the Bobcats scoreless, as Dunn made a big defensive save in the second half.

The Presidents will look to continue their undefeated start to the season on Saturday, Oct. 6, when they battle the Hawks of Hartwick in road Empire 8 action at 11 a.m.
