ONEONTA, N.Y. -- An eighth-minute goal by
Alana Boyd (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) proved to be enough for No. 19 Washington & Jefferson field hockey to earn a 1-0 win over Hartwick in Empire 8 action on Saturday, Oct. 6.Â
Today's win preserves the Presidents' perfect 10-0 start to the season, which includes a 4-0 beginning to league play. The Hawks, on the other hand, drop to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in league action.Â
In wet and raining conditions in Oneonta, N.Y., Boyd's first-half goal stood as the only goal for both teams. In total, the Presidents tallied six shots, three of which were on goal. Hartwick finished with 10 shots, eight on goal. Â
Boyd, who is second on the Red & Black with four goals, led all players with four shots, while
Ashley Kunkle (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) recorded the team's other two attempts.Â
Rena Israel (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) played all 70 minutes in cage for W&J and made a career-high eight saves.Â
The nationally-ranked Presidents will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon with a 1 p.m. E8 bout against The Sage Colleges in Troy, N.Y.
