GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team suffered a heart-breaking 2-1 overtime loss to Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Grove City in road action on Friday, Oct. 5.Â
With the setback, the Red & Black fall to 3-7-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the PAC. The Wolverines, on the other hand, improve to 8-1-3 on the year with today's bout being the team's league opener.Â
Trailing Grove City, 1-0, the Presidents evened today's bout at 1-1 with a 78th-minute strike by
Michael Komaniak (Oakmont, Pa./Riverview). Komaniak, who has scored three goals on the season, was assisted by
Michael DeSabato (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic).Â
But W&J's comeback fell just short 6:21 into OT, as Grove City's Noah Esbenshade netted the game-winner on his home turf.Â
In addition to Komaniak,
Matt Prezioso (Clairton, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) also had a stellar offensive day, as he paced the team with two shots.
Matt Kotkiewicz (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and
Paul Mokrzan (Hilliard, Ohio/Watterson) were the remaining Presidents who recorded a shot in the contest.Â
Nick Stasko (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) played all 96:21 in goal for the Red & Black and made 11 saves against the high-powered Wolverines.Â
The Presidents will have a week off from competition, as they will next play on Friday, Oct. 12, at home against Geneva at 5:30 p.m.  Â
