Men's Water Polo stumbles twice to begin Gary Troyer Tournament

Where: The University of La Verne – La Verne, Calif.
Opponent: Whittier
Result: L, 6-17
 
How it Happened: The Washington & Jefferson men's water polo team opened the Gary Troyer Tournament with a 17-6 loss to Whittier on the campus of the University of La Verne in La Verne, Calif. 
 
Top Performer: Ian Geister (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) scored four of the Presidents' six goals against the Poets. 
 
The Rest: Freshman Dustin Reinke (Fresno, Calif./Buchanan) scored the remaining two goals for the Red & Black. Troy Smith (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos) paced the team with a pair of assists. In goal, Nick Spehar (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) made nine saves.

Opponent: Cal Lutheran
Result: L, 9-18
 
How it Happened:
The Presidents dropped their second tilt of the Gary Troyer Tournament, falling to Cal Lutheran by an 18-9 final score in Pomona, Calif. 
 
Top Performer: Reinke stole the for in W&J's nightcap, as he scored six of the team's nine goals. 
 
The Rest: The Presidents' other goal scorers included Smith, Geister, and Will Kitsch (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin). In his second match of the day, Spehar made two saves against the Kingsmen. 
 
What's Next: The Red & Black have another doubleheader on the schedule tomorrow, beginning with a 1:20 p.m. match against Caltech on Saturday, Oct. 6.
