LATROBE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team topped Saint Vincent, 3-1, behind a strong defensive performance in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Friday, Oct. 5, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.Â
The Presidents recorded 95 digs in tonight's bout, the second-highest total for the team this year. With the victory tonight, W&J improves to 11-9 overall and 7-2 in conference, while the Bearcats drop to 8-11 overall and 4-5 in the PAC.
W&J employed a balanced offensive effort tonight, as four Presidents logged double-digit kills.
Abbey Eich (Greencastle, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) led the way with 16 kills.
Madison Lydic was second on the Red & Black with 14 kills, while
Bridget Hart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle) tallied a season-high 13.
Mallory O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) assisted on 54 of the team's 59 kills, her second-highest total of the year.Â
On defense,
Makenzie Coughlin (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) posted a match-high 31 digs, with
Julia Galbraith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) and
Katie Conner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) finishing second and third on the team with 17 and 16 digs, respectively. Concerning blocks, Hart, Lydic, and
Morgan Jacques (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Science & Technology Academy) all finished tied for the team lead with two blocks apiece.Â
The Presidents will return to the Henry Memorial Center for its next contest, as they will challenge Chatham at home on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.
