Presidents attack at .379-clip in 3-0 win over Chatham

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Haley Nelson (Warren, Pa./Warren) tallied a career-best 11 kills at a .417 hitting percentage to help lead Washington & Jefferson to a 3-0 sweep of Chatham.

Scores for the Presidents' Athletic Conference match were 25-13, 25-16, 25-10. The victory improved W&J to 8-2 in the PAC with an overall mark of 12-9.

Nelson balanced her 11 kills with four in the first and third sets and three in the second set. The sophomore recorded just one attack error in 24 attempts for her .417 hitting percentage.

Madison Lydic (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) was second on the team with nine kills (and an astounding .643 percentage), but also contributed a season-high nine blocks (two solo), with five coming in set two and four in the decisive third set. She also fired off a pair of services aces for the fourth time this year. Despite playing just two sets, Abbey Eich (Greencastle, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) added six kills at a .400 rate. Mallory O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) posted double-double number 11 on the season with a match-high 32 assists and 12 digs.

Defensively, Makenzie Coughlin (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) and Katie Conner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) both reached double digits in digs with 14 and 10, respectively. Morgan Jacques (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy) turned away seven blocks (to go with five kills) and Ashley Kovel (Everett, Pa./Everett) had three blocks and three kills in the third set.

W&J travels to Thiel to continue PAC play with a 7 p.m. match on Thursday, Oct. 11.
