WASHINGTON, Pa. --Â
Katie Hahn's (Volant, Pa./Wilmington) 81st-minute goal propelled the Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chatham in PAC action at Alexandre Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 9.Â
With the victory, the Presidents are now 5-6-2 on the season with a 2-1-0 start in conference. The loss drops the Cougars to 7-5-0 overall and to 1-3-0 in PAC play.Â
The game-winning goal was a prime example of W&J exploiting holes in the opposing defense.
Julie Halula (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) made a long pass to Hahn, who was streaking down the left side of the field. Hahn stopped the ball beat one defender and buried it just over the keeper into the center of the net.Â
Hahn, who leads the team with three goals this season, finished the game tied with
Brianna Floryshak (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) for the team lead in shots with two. Four other Presidents were credited with shots in the match, with
Michelle Cicalese (Mount Olive, N.J./Pope John XXIII) logging the lone other shot on goal.Â
Shayla Watkins (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Red & Black and made 10 saves. Today's win is the rookie keeper's first complete-game shutout of the year.Â
The Presidents will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 12, for a 7:30 p.m. matchup against Geneva at Alexandre Stadium as part of W&J's Homecoming Weekend.Â
