Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Presidents top Dickinson, 77-58, to begin home tournament

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team cruised past Dickinson in the second half to take a 77-58 victory in the second game of the Springhill Suites Tip-Off Tournament on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Henry Memorial Center.

With the win, W&J improved to 2-1 on the year and 1-1 in home contests. Dickinson, on the other hand, fell to 1-1 on the young season.

The Presidents blew tonight's game wide open in the second half, as a one-point halftime lead (31-30) grew to 19 (77-58) by the end of the game. The reasons for this disparity was W&J's defense, and it work on the glass. The Red & Black held the Red Devils to 11-for-35 (31.4 percent) shooting from the floor and 3-for-20 (15.0 percent) from behind the arc in the second half. W&J took advantage of those misses by owning a 54-35 lead in rebounds for the game.

Pacing the Presidents tonight was Danielle Parker (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), as she posted her first double-double of the year with a game-high 19 points and 10 boards in a team-leading 29 minutes. Sophomore Alie Seto (Allison, Pa./Brownsville) also logged a double-double, the second of her career, with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Lauren Gilbert (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and Izzy Allen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) rounded out the W&J's double-digit scorers. Gilbert posted 11 points with two rebounds and two assists, while Allen contributed 10 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Kylie McKennen (Triadelphia, W. Va./Wheeling Park) did a little bit of everything for W&J, as she tallied six points, seven rebounds, a game-high six assists, and three steals.

The Presidents will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. to face Marietta in the first-place game of the Springhill Suites Tip-Off Tournament.
