Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

W&J’s late rally not enough in 76-63 loss to Marietta

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Despite a strong second-half rally, the Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team was unable to defeat Marietta, as the Presidents took a 76-63 loss in the championship game of the Springhill Suites Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 17.

After falling down 51-25 after the first half, W&J began to pick up its play in the second. The Presidents' defense allowed them to outscore the Pioneers by a 38-25 margin in the half. W&J forced 13 turnovers in the final 20 minutes, compared to committing just eight of its own. Unfortunately for the Red & Black, it proved not to be enough, as they would not cut the deficit below 11 points (74-63) in the fourth quarter.

W&J's strength today, as it had been all weekend, was its play in the post. Both Danielle Parker (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Alie Seto (Allison, Pa./Brownsville) made the All-Tournament Team by flirting with averaging a double-double for the tournament. Parker logged 10 points and seven rebounds in today's game, while Seto posted eight points and eight boards. Parker averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds over the two games, while Seto averaged 9.5 points and 9.0 boards.

Lauren Gilbert (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led the Presidents on the offensive end, scoring a game-high tying 21 points on 5-of-10 (50 percent) shooting from three-point range. The sophomore also dished out a team-leading four assists in a game-high 35 minutes. For the second game in a row, freshman Kylie McKennen (Triadelphia, W. Va./Wheeling Park) filled up the stat sheet, as she recorded six points, six rebounds, and one assist in 33 minutes of playing time.

The Presidents will bring an end to their season-long four-game homestand on Tuesday, Nov. 20, when they welcome Allegheny to the Henry Memorial Center for a 7 p.m. showdown.
