WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team held a 15-point halftime lead (44-29) over Allegheny, but fell in overtime by a 96-90 final score on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Henry Memorial Center.Â
W&J was strong in the first half of play, as it shot a stellar 47.4 percent (18-of-38) in the first 20 minutes, compared to Allegheny's 36.4 percent (12-for-33). Things changed in the second half, however, as the Gators flipped the switch and shot 17-for-31 (54.8 percent) from the floor to knot the score at 78-78 at the end of regulation. Clutch free throw shooting in overtime sealed the win for Allegheny, as it went 13-of-14 (92.9 percent) from the line in the extra frame.Â
Despite taking the loss, the Presidents still executed their offense efficiently tonight, as they owned a 19-15 advantage in assists. W&J also limited turnovers, as both teams finished tied with 12 turnovers in the contest.Â
The Presidents were led in tonight's bout by a strong performance by
Danielle Parker (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), who paced the team with 23 points and eight rebounds in 39 minutes of playing time. With 23 points tonight, the senior forward is now just five shy of becoming the 18th 1,000-point scorer in program history.Â
Lauren Gilbert (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) also reached 20 points against the Gators, scoring 22 in 42 minutes of action. The sophomore also recorded five rebounds, four assists and two steals to round out her stat line. Sophomore
Alie Seto (Allison, Pa./Brownsville) continued her strong start this season, as she scored a season-high tying 17 points and grabbed four rebounds in 25 minutes.Â
Freshman
Izzy Allen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) added 10 points on a perfect 3-of-3 night from the floor, which included a pair of three-pointers. Fellow rookie
Aleena McDaniel (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown) also did well filling up the stat sheet, finishing the game with eight points, a season-high seven rebounds and four assists.Â
The Presidents will be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 25, to play Baldwin Wallace at 3 p.m., W&J's last game before the start of PAC play.
