Men’s Basketball picks up first PAC win, tops Geneva, 67-63

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Efficient offense and strong defense helped the Washington & Jefferson men's basketball team defeat Geneva, 67-63, for its first PAC victory of the 2018-19 season on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Today's victory gives the Presidents a 3-5 overall record on the year with a 1-1 mark in the PAC. The Golden Tornadoes drop to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in league action.

W&J began today's game on a 16-6 run to storm ahead after the first 6:46. Cameron Seemann (Loveland, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller) led the team in the run with seven points. Geneva found its legs over the remainder of the stanza, cutting the Presidents' advantage to one, 30-29, heading into halftime.

The Golden Tornadoes started the second half by claiming a lead of their own, an advantage that it held for much of the first 10 minutes. The Red & Black stormed ahead for good with 10:51 left in the game. Primo Zini (Morgantown, W. Va./Trinity Christian) was critical to keeping the Presidents close in the second half, as he tallied 17 points, eight in the final 10 minutes. Zini's layup with 15 seconds left on the clock broke a 63-all tie, and guided W&J to the 67-63 victory.

The Presidents picked up today's triumph by outshooting Geneva. The Red & Black posted a .418 field-goal percentage (23-of-55), while holding the Golden Tornadoes to a .317 field-goal percentage (19-of-60). W&J also owned an advantage in three-point shots, sinking eight, compared to Geneva's five.

Seemann led the way for the Presidents with a game-high 23 points, five rebounds and an assist. Zini was second on the team with 17 points on 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) shooting from the floor.

Jonathan DeVito (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) rounded out W&J's double-digit scorers with a season-high 14 points on 5-of-7 (71.4 percent) shooting from the floor and 4-of-5 (80.0 percent) shooting from behind the arc. Okikiola Agbale (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) had a career day, logging a career-best 12 rebounds, with six coming on the offensive end of the floor.
