Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

W&J tames Cougars, 77-71, behind stellar shooting performance

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's basketball team sank a season-high 13 three-points to secure a 77-71 triumph over Chatham in PAC play on Wednesday, Dec. 5.

Following tonight's win, the Presidents are now 4-5 on the season, with a 2-1 mark in league play. On the other side of the court, Chatham falls to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in conference action.

The Presidents held a firm grasp for much of tonight's contest, leading for 73.8 percent of game time (29:32). The Red & Black's biggest advantage came with 14:17 left in the second half, as W&J was ahead 10 points, 54-44, following a 15-6 run. Zach Queen (Jeannette, Pa./Hempfield Area) capped the run with one of his four three-pointers. This spurt would prove to be just enough for the Presidents to hold on and pick up the win, as they would maintain the lead for the remainder of the game.

W&J's hot shooting was the story of the night, as the Presidents sank a season-best 13 treys. Queen, Cameron Seemann (Loveland, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller) and Jonathan DeVito (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) combined to make all 13 three-pointers, with Queen and Seemann sinking four and DeVito topping them both with five.

For the bout, Seemann led all players with 24 points on 8-of-11 (72.7 percent) shooting from the floor and 4-of-6 (66.7 percent) shooting from behind the arc. He also added a team-high tying four assists. DeVito ended the day with 17 points on 6-of-12 (50.0 percent) shooting from the field.

Queen tallied 12 points to round out the Presidents' double-digit scorers in a team-high 34 minutes. He also finished tied for the team lead with six rebounds. Freshman Primo Zini (Morgantown, W. Va./Trinity Christian) did a little bit of everything for the Red & Black, recording seven points and six boards in 16 minutes of playing time.

The Presidents will have 10 days off before returning to Henry Memorial Stadium for a 3 p.m. showdown against Westminster on Saturday, Dec. 15.
