WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's basketball team saw its three-game win streak come to a close with a 75-54 loss to Carnegie Mellon in nonconference action on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the Henry Memorial Center.
The loss drops W&J to 5-6 overall this season, while CMU improves to 4-6 on the year.
The Presidents kept the game close for much of the first half, as they trailed by just five points, 29-24, following a
Jonathan DeVito (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) layup with 1:05 left in the stanza.
Things got away from the Red & Black in the second half. The Tartans expanded their 31-24 halftime lead to 51-31 after the first 6:22. From that point, CMU never looked back and owned a 16-plus-point advantage for the remainder of the contest.
Cameron Seemann (Loveland, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller) paced the Presidents with 14 points and five rebounds. The double-digit effort is the sophomore's 10th of the season and his sixth in a row.
Nicholas Campalong (Sewickley, Pa./Ambridge) rounded out W&J's double-digit scorers with 12 points, his second-highest total of the year. The sophomore forward went 4-of-7 (57.1 percent) from the floor and hit a season-best two three-pointers.
Mitch DeZort (Tarentum, Pa./Highlands) led the Presidents defensively with a team-high two steals to go along with season-high tying six points.
Terence Martin (Saugus, Mass./Northeast Metro Tech School) came off the bench and hit a three-pointer in the second half, his first points of the season.
The Red & Black will conclude the 2018 portion of their schedule at the Oberlin College Holliday Classic on Friday-Saturday, Dec. 28-29. The Presidents will begin the event on Friday with a 5 p.m. showdown against the host Yeomen.
