Presidents return to winning ways, down Thiel 16-1

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team got back on the winning track with a 16-1 victory over Thiel at Alexandre Stadium.

W&J improves to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference, having won 22 of its last 23 league games. Thiel falls to 3-6 this season and 3-3 within the conference.

Sophomore Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) became the seventh player in program history to top 100 career goals, finishing with five goals and two assists to match her season high with seven points. Through 28 games in her time in Red & Black, LaRochelle has 102 goals and 23 assists for 125 points. She also added five ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Alexis Miller (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) notched her fifth hat trick in the last six matches by scoring three times and handing out an assist.

Caroline Kallos (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) had three points on a goal and two assists, but the two-time reigning ORLC Defensive Player of the Year picked up nine ground balls, eight draw controls and caused seven turnovers. The W&J career leader in all three categories reached an even 300 career ground balls on the evening.

Three Presidents tallied two goals on the evening: Katelyn White (Linthicum, Md./North County), Sofiya Bobrovnikova (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) and Kayla Boulas (North Branford, Conn./North Branford).

Allison Onslow (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) picked up four ground balls for the defense.

For the game, W&J led in shots, 40-16, and shots on goal, 33-13, while going 16-for-20 on clear attempts. The Presidents controlled 13 of the 19 draws and corralled 32 ground balls to just 18 for the Tomcats.

Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J Roberts) recorded her seventh double-digit save performance of the season by turning Thiel away 12 times.

W&J will welcome Earlham to Alexandre Stadium for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, April 15.
