W&J breezes by Westminster, 16-3

WASHINGTON, Pa. – A 13-goal first half proved too much for Westminster as the Washington & Jefferson women's lacrosse team won 16-3 on Wednesday, April 18th in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action.

The win improves the Presidents to 9-3 overall with a 6-1 ORLC record and the loss puts Westminster at 3-7 on the season with a 3-4 conference mark.

Rae LaRochelle (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) tickled the twine early as she netted an unassisted goal 1:13 into the first half. Sierra Meyer (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) scored her fourth goal of the year about two minutes later off a feed from Kayla Boulas (North Branford, Conn./North Branford).

Westminster got one back before the next eleven went to the Presidents to end the half, including three from Caroline Kallos (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin), two from LaRochelle and goals from six others.

The first goal of the second half went to the Titans, but the 13-2 score would hold until approximately 10 minutes left in the half when Kallos scored her fourth of the game. The Presidents would concede one more before Jenna Allen (Sanford, Fla./Seminole) and Graycen Vitale (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) tallied the final two goals to close the game.

Kallos led the team with four goals and two assists while LaRochelle added three of each. Allen, Meyer, and Vitale followed with two each. Sofiya Bobrovnikova (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast), Boulas, and Alexis Miller (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) tallied a goal and an assist apiece.

Miller scooped a game- and season-high 10 ground balls and caused nine turnovers, while Allison Onslow (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) earned five ground balls to reach 100 for her career and also caused four turnovers.

Sara Maute (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) earned the win in goal with five saves on nine shots faced.

The Presidents will return to the field on Saturday, April 21, for Senior Day at Alexandre Stadium as they take on Hanover in an ORLC showdown. The game is set to start at 1:00 p.m. with senior recognition to occur before the game begins.
