LATROBE, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson saw its three-game winning streak snapped by a pair of softball losses at Saint Vincent, 5-0 and 9-1 (6 innings).
With the losses, the Presidents fall to 9-17 overall in 2018 and 5-9 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
Three seniors accounted for W&J's three hits in the opener as first baseman
Danielle Kochka (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway), right fielder
Ally Doty (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) and designated player
Jamie Smith (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) all singled.
Taylor Andres (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) scattered nine hits and allowed just two earned runs with four strike outs in going the distance in the circle.
In the second game, W&J got on the board first with a sacrifice fly from catcher
Lexie Creyer (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood) that scored Kochka, who had walked to lead off the frame. However, the Bearcats got seven unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth and then added two more in the sixth to take the league victory.
Second baseman
Rachel Johnson (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) led the W&J offense with two hits in the night cap and center fielder
Dana Parker (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour), Doty and shortstop
Meghan Staab (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) each added singles.
The Presidents will host Waynesburg at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25 as PAC action continues.
