Presidents halted at Saint Vincent, 12-5

LATROBE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson men's lacrosse team suffered a 12-5 loss in a road Ohio River Lacrosse Conference matchup against Saint Vincent on Wednesday, April 25.

Ben Ward (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) scored the first goal of the game to put the Presidents on top at the 11:08 mark of the first quarter. After a goal from the Bearcats tied the game, Ward scored twice more to give W&J a 3-1 lead just over halfway through the opening period.

Saint Vincent silenced the Presidents' offense the rest of the first half, however, allowing no more goals and scoring three times to take a 4-3 lead into the half.

Ward scored yet again to open the third quarter, tying the game at 4-4, before the Bearcats rattled off eight of the final nine goals of the contest, including a streak of six in a row at one point, to finish off W&J. Brendan Tribeck (Enola, Pa./Trinity) tallied the fifth goal of the game for the Presidents at the 7:49 mark of the fourth quarter to cap the scoring for the visitors.

Ward's four goals marked his fifth four-goal game of the season as the sophomore attackman finished with four points and two ground balls. Tribeck assisted on two goals in addition to his one score for his sixth three-point game of 2018 and third straight. Rocco Ruscitto (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) recorded an assist as well.

Michael Aaron Pray III (Gaithersburg, Md./Maret School (D.C.)) and Joseph Tritschler (New Kensington, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) led the team with four ground balls apiece and were among nine different Presidents with at least two ground balls in the game.

The Presidents will conclude the 2018 regular season on Saturday, April 28, when they host Hanover at 1:00 p.m. with Senior Day festivities taking place prior to the opening face-off.
