WASHINGTON, Pa. --
Joseph Feola (Carnegie, Pa./Central Catholic) netted the match-tying goal in the 67th minute and the winner in the 88th minute to give the Washington & Jefferson men's soccer team a 2-1 nonconference win over La Roche at Alexandre Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, the Redhawks tallied the opening goal of the contest in the 51st minute with stellar passing in their offensive zone.
The Presidents answered with Feola's first collegiate goal in the 67th minute. Feola received a pass from
Michael Komaniak (Oakmont, Pa./Riverview) and beat the opposing keeper to the bottom-left corner of the net.
Paul Mokrzan (Hilliard, Ohio/Watterson) earned an assist on the play by making the initial pass to Komaniak. Â
With the score knotted at 1-1, it was a fantastic individual effort by Feola that would swing the bout to the Red & Black. The rookie corralled a pass from
Junior Mensah (Chantilly, Va./Broad Run) and beat a defender to get into the box, before firing a shot into the lower-left side of the net. Mensah's assist is his first point of the year.
For the contest, the Presidents held a 23-9 advantage in shots and a 7-4 lead in shots on goal.
Matt Prezioso (Clairton, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) paced all players with six shots in the tilt, while Komaniak and Feola were not far behind with five and four, respectively.
Nick Stasko (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) was in goal all 90 minutes for the Presidents and made three saves on the evening.Â
W&J continues its season-long four-game homestand on Saturday, Sept. 15, with a 1 p.m. clash against Frostburg State.
