GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team improved to 3-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a victory of the same score at Grove City on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
With the victory, the Presidents move to an even 4-4 on the year and begin PAC play 3-0 for the first time since at least 2005. Scores by set were 25-12, 25-19, 25-21.
Mallory O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led the Presidents with a double-double, registering match highs of 34 assists and 22 digs. The 34 assists equal her season high, while the 22 digs establish a new season benchmark. She also led all players with four service aces.
Two Presidents reached double digits in kills as
Julia Bernesser (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) recorded 11 kills at a .308 clip and
Madison Lydic (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) fired 10 kills and posted a .421 hitting percentage.
Abbey Eich (Greencastle, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) contributed nine kills in the win.
Morgan Jacques (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy) tied for the match lead with three kills, with Eich adding two.
Madison Simpson (Washington, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) reached double figures in digs for the first time in her career with 12.
W&J will head to Hiram, Ohio for this weekend's Hiram Tournament, beginning with a 5:30 p.m. match against John Carroll to kick off the weekend on Friday, Sept. 14.
