WASHINGTON, Pa. --Â An 86th-minute goal by Franciscan guided the Barons to a 1-0 victory over Washington & Jefferson men's soccer in nonconference action on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Alexandre Stadium.Â
Tonight's bout was tightly contested, as the Presidents were just edged by their out-of-state foes in shots (14-13). Despite this disadvantage, the Red & Black held leads in both corner kicks (6-2) and saves (6-5).Â
W&J spread the offense around in the tilt, as four Presidents finished tied for the team lead in shots with two. The Red & Black also had five team members each tally at least one shot on goal.Â
Matt Kotkiewicz (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) was the closest Presidents to scoring a goal, but his 80th-minute attempt in the box was just turned away by the opposing keeper at the last minute.Â
Senior goalie
Nick Stasko (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) played all 90 minutes for the Red & Black and made six saves.Â
W&J brings an end to its season-long four-game homestand on Saturday, Sept. 22, with a 1 p.m. tilt against Marietta.
