WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team was unable to overcome three first-half goals by Case Western Reserve in a 3-0 Presidents' setback on Sunday, Sept. 23, at Alexandre Stadium.Â
The Spartans opened the game on the offensive, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes to storm ahead 2-0. Following Case's third goal in the 28th minute, the Red & Black defense settled in and held the Spartans scoreless for the final 62 minutes of the contest.Â
The duo of
Lexey Finney (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and
Samantha Fields (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) paced the W&J attack, as the pair finished tied for the team lead in shots with three apiece. Fields logged two of the team's three shots on goal, with
Katie Hahn (Volant, Pa./Wilmington) posting the other shot on goal.Â
Both
Shayla Watkins (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) and
Beth Boyles (Dundee, Ohio/Hiland) appeared as keepers for the Red & Black, with each playing one half. Watkins registered four saves in her 45 minutes, while Boyles made two stops.Â
The Presidents will return to the pitch on Thursday, Sept. 27, for a nonconference road showdown against Penn State Altoona at 8 p.m.
