MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team bested Allegheny, 3-0, to earn a split in a nonconference tri-match, hosted by Allegheny in Meadville, Pa.Â
With today's split, W&J's overall record moved to 10-8 on the year. In the first match of the day, the Presidents rolled to a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-15, 25-19) over the Gators. The Red & Black had a harder time against Baldwin Wallace, falling in straight sets to the Yellow Jackets (25-16, 25-23, 25-21), who are now 20-1 on the season.Â
In the opener against the Gators,
Julia Galbraith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) and
Madison Lydic (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) paced the Presidents with eight kills apiece. Galbraith and
Madison Simpson (Washington, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) finished tied for the team lead with three service aces.
Mallory O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) was at the center of the offense with 30 assists on the team's 38 kills.Â
Defensively, the Presidents were led by
Makenzie Coughlin (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick), who tallied 17 digs.
Katie Conner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) also had double-digit digs with 10.
Morgan Jacques (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Science & Technology Academy) paced all players with three blocks.Â
In the second match against Baldwin Wallace, Jacques led the Presidents with six kills, while
Abbey Eich (Greencastle, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) finished second on the team with five. On defense, Galbraith, Coughlin, and Simpson each recorded 14 digs to lead W&J. Lydic and Jacques led the Presidents with three and two blocks, respectively.Â
The Red & Black return to PAC action this week with a home 7 p.m. tilt against Bethany on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Â
