WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 triumph over Thiel on Senior Day at Alexandre Stadium on Sept. 29, 2018.
Today's scoring output is a season high for the Presidents, as they had not scored more than one goal in a game this year. The victory also marked the team's second win in a row, which raised W&J's overall record to 4-5-1 on the season.Â
Brianna Floryshak (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area),
Katie Hahn (Volant, Pa./Wilmington), and
Patty Eshenbaugh (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) went down as W&J's three goal scorers. Floryshak and Hahn scored in the first half, while Eshenbaugh found the back of the net in the 78th minute. Hahn's goal is her team-leading second of the year, while Floryshak and Eshenbaugh's tallies are their first.
Senior
Samantha Fields (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) led the way for the Presidents with game highs in both shots (4) and shots on goal (3). Four other members of the Red & Black finished tied for second with three shots apiece.Â
W&J employed the services of both
Shayla Watkins (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi) and
Beth Boyles (Dundee, Ohio/Hiland) in goal, with each making a save in 45 minutes of action. Watkins earned the victory to improve to 3-3-1 on the season.Â
The Presidents return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 2, for a road nonconference tilt against Oberlin at 7:30 p.m.Â
