ERIE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson wrestling team went 2-1 at the Penn State Behrend duals on Saturday, Jan. 12, besting Behrend and Alfred State and falling to West Liberty. 

The Presidents began the day with a 35-12 setback to West Liberty, before bouncing back to post a dominant 44-12 win over the host Lions of Behrend. The final match saw W&J top Alfred State 60-0 after the Pioneers forfeited nine of 10 matches. 

Two Presidents went a perfect 3-0 on the day, while five W&J wrestlers won twice. Juniors Michael Heinl (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) and Jared Walker (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) were the team's two 3-0 performers. 

At 149 pounds, Heinl began the event with a 12-10 decision over West Liberty's Miles Mazik. He followed that up with a tech fall over Behrend's Cole Ruffo (17-1), before earning a forfeit victory over Alfred State. With a trio of wins, Heinl's season record improves to 25-3. 

Walker dominated at 165 pounds, kicking off the event with a 19-8 major decision against Owen Zeiders of the Hilltoppers. The McDonald, Pa. native then pinned the Lions' Tyler Speraw in 2:36 to improve to 2-0. A forfeit win against the Pioneers sealed a perfect day for Walker, who is now 19-2 on the year. 

The Presidents' dual winners included Manny Dovshek (Scenery Hill, Pa./Bentworth), Vinny Palm (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair), Zach Schrott (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin), Alex Miller (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) and Jake Walker (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette). 

All five of these wrestlers picked up victories against both Behrend and Alfred State. Dovshek (125), Palm (141) and Miller (174) all picked up pins in their bouts against the Lions, while Schrott (157) logged a decision. Walker (285) was the lone W&J competitor to challenge the Pioneers, as he defeated Kyle Fitzgerald via pin in 2:23. 

The Presidents will have their first home dual match of the season on Wednesday, Jan. 16, against PAC foe Thiel at 7 p.m.
