Presidents Shut Out Gators For Sixth-Straight Win

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Freshman Lindsey Diggan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Governor Mifflin) scored a third quarter goal and the Presidents' defense posted its fourth-straight shutout as the Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team collected a 1-0 road victory at Allegheny on Tuesday evening.

The victory pushes W&J's win streak to six-straight games. In that span the Presidents have allowed just one goal, a penalty stroke against Nazareth.

Following a scoreless first half, in which the Presidents outshot the Gators 5-1, W&J found the game's only goal in the final five minutes of the third quarter.

The Presidents fired two shots after a penalty corner in the 40th minute before Diggan was able to corral the ball and fire in her team-leading fifth goal of the year.

The Gators managed to fire their only shot on goal with just over three minutes remaining in regulation but W&J goalkeeper Rena Israel (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) made the save to preserve the shutout and win.

For the game W&J outshot Allegheny 13-3, had an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal and held a 7-1 edge in penalty corners forced.

Diggan, Ashley Overton (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) and Reghan Dunn (Earleville, Md./Bohemian Manor) each fired two shots on goal for the Presidents.

W&J (8-4, 3-1 E8) carries its six-game winning streak to Saturday's 1:00 p.m. Empire 8 matchup with Houghton at Cameron Stadium.
