Volleyball suffers road setback to first place Westminster



NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team suffered a 3-0 road loss to first place Westminster College Tuesday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference action. 

The Titans took the match in straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-16 over the Presidents. 

Junior outside hitter Haley Nelson (Warren, Pa./Warren) led the offense with six kills while sophomore setter Alexis Tomassini (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) logged a team-best 14 assists.

Defensively, senior libero Makenzie Coughlin (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) tallied 17 digs and junior defensive specialist Katie Conner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) added 10 digs. 

The loss drops W&J to 3-7 in PAC play and 4-17 overall. The win improves Westminster to 9-0 in conference games and 20-1 overall. 

W&J travels to Grove City College for another league matchup on Saturday, Oct. 19. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the College Arena in Mercer County.
