Presidents Net Four Goals in PAC Victory Over Waynesburg

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team picked up its third-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference victory with another strong offensive outing in the Presidents' 4-2 win over Waynesburg on Wednesday evening.

Halfway through the nine-game conference slate, the Presidents (6-6-2, 3-0-1) are tied atop the league standings with Westminster with 10 points. The Presidents have scored at least four goals in each of their last three contests.

W&J notched the game's only first-half goal with Jake Fetterman (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) cashing in on a cross from Gary Olson (Erie, Pa./North East) from 12 yards out.

Fetterman's tally was the only shot on goal either team could muster through the game's first 45 minutes of play.

The Red and Black broke open the game with a pair of goals in a span of 27 seconds in the 63rd minute.

Dylan Mayanja (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill), the reigning PAC Offensive Player of the Week, headed home his fifth goal of the season off a feed from Jonathan Youse (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff).

On the ensuing Waynesburg kickoff, John Appiah (Greenville, S.C.) pressured the Yellow Jacket backline, won the ball and beat the goalkeeper for his third score of the year.

Alvaro Viadas (Burgos, Spain) joined the scoring spree with a goal of his own less than five minutes later. Junior Mensah (Chantilly, Va./Broad Run) sent a ball forward to Viadas that brought out the Waynesburg goalie and Viadas used a touch to put the ball over the keeper's head and headed it into the back of the net. Vaidas' fifth goal of the season pushed W&J's lead to 4-0 in the 68th minute.

Waynesburg's Dante Ohm scored in the 76th minute and Kyle Deaner in the 83rd minute to trim the final margin to 4-2.

On the evening the Presidents outshot Waynesburg 15-9 and outshot the Jackets on goal 6-2.

Samuel Miller (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) minded the President net for all 90 minutes and collected the victory for W&J.

The Presidents host Point Park in non-conference action on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. W&J resumes PAC play next Wednesday evening at Thiel.
