Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Dunn scores game-winner to give Presidents third straight win

WOOSTER, Ohio -- Reghan Dunn (Earleville, Md./Bohemian Manor) fired home the game-winning goal to give the Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team a 1-0 road victory over the College of Wooster in double overtime Wednesday evening.

The game-deciding goal came in the 77th minute off a penalty corner. After Wooster stopped one corner opportunity, the Presidents were awarded another, and that's when sophomore Madeline Hubbard (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) found Dunn atop the circle for the score. The goal was the second of the season for Dunn while the assist was the second in the past three games by Hubbard.

The Presidents out-shot the Fightin Scots by a 14-3 margin, which included a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. W&J registered a 10-0 advantage in penalty corners over Wooster.

Sophomore Ashley Kunkle (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) tallied three shots as she was one of six W&J players to record multiple shots on the evening.

Rena Israel (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) improved her record to 5-4 for the season, as the junior goalkeeper turned away a pair of Wooster shots in the shutout victory.

The win extends the Presidents season-best winning streak to three games. W&J improves to 5-4 overall with the non-conference victory. Wooster drops to 3-5 overall in 2019.

W&J jumps back into Empire 8 play on Saturday, Oct. 5 when they travel to New York to face Elmira College. The Presidents and Soaring Eagles will square off at 1 p.m.
