BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer team scored four times in the second half to pick up a 5-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory and secure a spot in the PAC's postseason Tournament.
The Presidents (6-7-3, 4-0-3 PAC) remain unbeaten in league play and the victory guarantees the Red and Black a top-three finish and an appearance in the PAC Tournament.
Five goals set a single-game season high for the Presidents, who have outscored their opposition 15-2 in conference play through seven games.
The Presidents were on the offensive early, firing six shots in the game's first 10 minutes, with the seventh shot handing eth Presidents an early lead.
Brianna McGowan (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) cashed in in the 10
th minute with her first career goal off a pass from
Katie Hahn (Volant, Pa./Wilmington).
Despite outshooting the Bison 24-0 in the first half, the Presidents carried a 1-0 advantage into halftime on McGowan's tally.
Less than two minutes into the second half,
Hannah Johnston (East Freedom, Pa./Central) scored in her second-straight game, putting the Presidents ahead 2-0 in the 47
th minute.
Hahn found the back of the net off a feed from
McKenna Lewis (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) in the 51
st minute for her fourth goal of the season.
Marcy Saldivar (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) made it three goals in a 10-minute span with her team-leading seventh goal of the year in the 57
th minute.
Chandler Marteeny (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) finished up the scoring with a tally in the 89
th minute from
Wies Achtereekte (Deventer, The Netherlands).
The Presidents recorded their third-straight shutout win with all three clean sheets coming in road games. W&J outshot Bethany 43-0 for the game with a 17-0 advantage in shots on goal.
The Presidents host Grove City for Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
With a win over the Wolverines, the Presidents would secure the second overall seed in the PAC Tournament and a home PAC semifinal. A tie or loss would put the Presidents in third place in the final standings.
