WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Behind a strong performance in doubles play, the Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team beat previously unbeaten Westminster College by a 5-4 score in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center on Thursday evening. 

The Presidents swept through doubles play to take the first three points of the match. Maya Krishnasamy (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) and Isabella Goldman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) battled to secure an 8-7 (7-4) win at first doubles. Jade Annaldo (North Kingstown, R.I./Scituate) and Vanesa Hyde (Manns Choice, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) earned an 8-6 win at second doubles while Megan Berard (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Caitlin Shellhamer (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) secured an 8-4 victory at third doubles. 

Krishnasamy then swept her way through singles play, tallying a 7-6, 7-1 victory over Margo Mason of Westminster. Berard picked up a victory at third singles due to retirement by her opponent in the second set of play. Shellhamer dropped her match at fifth singles in a third set tiebreaker. 

The win improves W&J to 4-1 in the PAC and 5-5 overall. Westminster drops to 9-1 overall and 3-1 in league play.

W&J, winners of three straight, hosts Penn State Behrend for a non-conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
