Presidents Move Into First Place with Road Victory at Bethany

BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer scored five first-half goals on route to a 7-1 Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) road victory at Bethany on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The victory keeps W&J (9-7-2, 6-0-1) unbeaten in PAC play and puts the Presidents atop the conference standings with 19 points with one league game remaining.
 
Bethany grabbed an early advantage by scoring in the first minute of action, but the Presidents responded with five unanswered goal to close the half.
 
Alvaro Viadas (Burgos, Spain) got the scoring started for the Presidents 15 minutes into the contest on a assist from Dylan Mayanja (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill).
 
Jake Fetterman (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) connected with Mayanja in the 24th minute to hand the Presidents a 2-1 advantage. Viadas scored again  in the 35th minute on another Fetterman pass. 
 
A Bethany own goal and a tally from Michael Komaniak (Oakmont, Pa./Riverview) in the 39th minute from Zach Bowser (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) concluded the first-half rally with the Presidents ahead 5-1.
 
Fetterman tacked on a goal in the 57th minute and Thomas Einolf (Carlisle, Pa./Middletown) connected with Komaniak in the 81st as the Presidents cruised to a 7-1 victory.
 
Viadas successfully extended his point streak to seven-straight games with his two-goal day. 
 
W&J outshot Bethany 23-11 and held a 22-9 shots on goal advantage.
 
Ian Donlon (Latham, N.Y./Albany Academies) and Samuel Miller (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) split halves in goal for the Presidents and collected nine saves in total.
 
The Presidents host the defending PAC champion Grove City Wolverines for Senior Day on Saturday at Alexandre Stadium at 1:00 p.m. 
 
W&J, Westminster and Grove City are all still in the running for the top overall seed in the PAC Tournament going into Saturday's games. The Presidents can clinch the regular-season title outright with a win.
