Men's Tennis picks up non-conference win at UPG, 8-1


GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's tennis team downed Pitt-Greensburg by an 8-1 score in non-conference competition at the Greensburg Racquet Club in Westmoreland County. 

W&J swept the doubles matches from the Bobcats to open the evening. Nate Wang (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and Sam Bellini (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) picked up an 8-4 win at first doubles. Max Perilstein (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham Township) and Stephen Mehlbaum (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) breezed to an 8-0 victory at second doubles while Josh Hnat (Dubois, Pa./Dubois) and Derek Bedillion (Claysville, Pa./McGuffey) claimed an 8-4 win at third doubles. 

Wang pulled out a victory at first singles, rallying back after dropping the first set to claim the third set tiebreaker 10-7. Bellini earned a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles, while Mehlbaum won by a 6-1, 6-0 score at third singles. Perilstein (6-0, 6-2) and Hnat (6-0, 6-0) won easily at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. 

W&J improves to 4-1 overall while UPG drops to 1-4 this season. The Presidents are scheduled to host The University of Mount Union on Tuesday, March 5.
