AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Washington & Jefferson baseball team struggled to get its offense going in a 9-1 loss to Wheaton (Mass.) on Monday afternoon in Auburndale, Fla.Â
With the setback, the Presidents fall to 3-2 this season and 1-2 during their spring trip. Wheaton, on the other hand, is 4-1 after beating W&J and seventh-ranked UMass Boston in back-to-back games. Â
The Red & Black logged five hits in today's game, tallying a game-high two in the eighth inning. It was in that frame that W&J scored its lone run of the afternoon, as
Ryan Pallone (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) drove in
Adam Moore (Olean, N.Y./Archbishop Walsh) from third with a single in his first at-bat of the season.Â
In addition to Pallone,
Michael Zito (Nashville, Tenn./Hume-Fogg),
Alex Shapiro (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley),
Josh Crummer (Great Falls, Va./Flint Hill School) and
Joey Bolick (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) also recorded a hit. Zito and Shapiro's hits were their first of the season.Â
On the mound,
Garrett Harstine (New Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia) started and went 5.0 innings, allowing five runs, none of which were earned.Â
W&J's season rolls on tomorrow morning, as they will battle Salve Regina at 9:30 a.m. at the Osceola Heritage Park Stadium in Kissimmee, Fla.Â
